Bridging culture through design.
Project Details
Sector—Energy
Size—200,000 sq ft
Location—Jamieson Place, Calgary
Reflecting a company’s heritage.
Challenge
Equinor Canada Ltd., part of a Norwegian-based energy company, had a distinct vision for their nine-floor Calgary office. They wanted the space to reflect their Norwegian heritage while incorporating their bold brand colors. The design team’s aim was to blend Norwegian influences with a dynamic, modern workspace.
Strategy
With many ‘ex-pats’ working in the office, design became a tool for bridging cultural gaps through a shared visual language. A neutral backdrop would allow the brand’s vibrant colours to stand out, an ode to Norwegian interior design.
Delivery
Expansive open spaces offer sweeping views of Calgary from the top floors of LEED Platinum-certified Jamieson Place, where the sky gardens boast soaring 30-foot windows. Virtual communication is central to the company’s operations, connecting teams across Norway, Houston, Calgary and Newfoundland. To support this, tech-loaded meeting spaces were thoughtfully integrated throughout the 500-person office. The art collection was curated in Norway and arrived in Canada in a big and colourful way, commanding attention and stimulating conversation, in English and Norwegian!
