A bold and layered design approach rooted in Calgary culture.
Challenge
As a consulting engineering firm with a holistic and sustainable approach to mechanical design, Smith + Andersen wanted their Calgary office to represent the national brand identity while simultaneously capturing the unique culture of the local team.
Strategy
Incorporating elements reminiscent of popular Calgary neighbourhoods, the designers conceptualized a space that embraces materials, form and composition. A combination of warm and cold, structured and free-flowing, industrial and refined: juxtaposition was to be layered throughout the space in a theme inspired by the depth and layers of culture in the City.
Delivery
The industrial open ceilings, wood-framed ‘shop-front’ glazing and custom bistro benches create a welcoming and dynamic space that echoes Calgary’s eclectic coffee and brewery scene. Bold, industrial and clean design elements contrasted with those that are warm and timeless create a striking tableau as users move through the space. The result is a uniquely functional and impactful space inspired by the city’s most vibrant social corridors.
